Baxter State Park Introduces New Chief Ranger

The Baxter State Park Staff and Authority are excited to welcome Matthew McGuire as the Park’s new Chief Ranger. The search to fill this position was nationwide and following a second field interview and careful consideration by the selection committee, Matt was selected from a small field of talented candidates interviewed for this key position. Matt has over 20 years of experience working for the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry as a Park Ranger, Park Manager, and Assistant Regional Manager. Matt is also a licensed Emergency Medical Technician, has a solid search and rescue background as a volunteer on the Wilderness SAR team, is certified in and has technical ropes rescue, firefighting training, and has experience with Maine state government protocols and standards. Matt possesses the necessary leadership skills and knowledge of Baxter State Park and has a deep appreciation for Percival Baxter’s ‘wilderness first’ vision.
